Academic Excellence
At Queen's athletic success has never come at the expense of academic excellence.  The team takes a great deal of pride in the academic success of its athletes.  Since the establishment of the ACADEMIC ALL-CANADIAN award, Cross country and track and field have consistently lead all Queen's varsity teams in the number of athletes earning this award.  The award is granted to those varsity athletes who achieve an "A" level (80+%) standing in their academic pursuits.  The team has consistently produced 25 or more ACADEMIC ALL-CANADIANS, establishing a new team high in 2003-2004 with 33 athletes receiving this recognition.  Our athletes consistently earn top faculty honours and are recipients of many high level university scholarships and bursaries.  Susan Bartlett (Computer Science and English) a sprinter and hurdler on the team was named a Rhodes Scholar in 2003 and began studying at Oxford in the fall of 2003.  Cross-country and distance athlete Bob McGill (English) was the first track/XC Golden Gael to win a Rhodes Scholarship in 1997.

Queen's consistently has the highest academic requirements for admission of any Canadian school.  The percentage of students with 80+% is the highest in Canada.  This is reflected in the rich and vibrant educational experience students receive.  Queen's is consistently rated in the top 3 Doctoral and Medical Schools in the country in the McLean's polls.  A recent Globe-in-Mail poll had Queen's rated #1 by exiting students in terms of overall statisfaction.  With a degree that is recognized world wide, (the New York Times has consistently ranked Queen's among the top 10 academic instituitons in the world) Queen's graduates are in demand!

Philosophy
As a coaching staff we pride ourselves in helping athletes to improve.  We work hard to provide students with a positive training and competitive experience.  While medals are nice, it is not how we evaluate success.  Success for us is having the vast majority of our athletes record a personal best (PB).  We are also focus on athlete development.  We are prepared to work with athletes who have no or very little previous track and field experience.  Every event group can point to numerous success stories where an athlete who had no prior experience went on to earn OUA, and in some cases CIS Championship success.
